Terms of Service

These are the terms you agree to when you use Roger. They are written to be read, not to be survived. Where something is a real obligation on you, and section 5 is one, it is said plainly rather than buried.

1. Who we are, and what this covers

Roger is operated by Ovrthinq. These terms cover the Roger Android app and this website. How we handle your personal data is a separate document: the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

If you do not agree with these terms, do not use Roger. If you are using Roger on behalf of an organisation, you are confirming you have the authority to accept these terms for it.

2. What Roger is

Roger records audio when you start it, transcribes what was said, writes a summary, and pulls out any to-dos it finds. You can then search your recordings and ask questions about them.

Roger is in active development. Features change, and some of what you see today may work differently or be withdrawn.

3. Your account

You sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for keeping access to that account secure, and for what happens under your Roger account as a result.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Roger, or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher.

4. What you may and may not do

You may not use Roger to:

5. Recording other people

Telling the people around you that you are recording is your responsibility, not ours. The app asks you to confirm you understand this before it will use the microphone, and this section is what that confirmation refers to.

Recording law varies by country, by state, and by situation. Some places require the consent of only one party to a conversation; others require everyone’s. Roger does not and cannot know which applies to you, and it does not ask the people in the room, only you can do that.

Roger makes recording visible rather than hidden: a notification stays on screen for the whole recording, and your device shows its own microphone indicator. That is a design choice in favour of the people around you. It is not a substitute for telling them.

6. Your recordings are yours

You keep ownership of everything you record and everything Roger writes from it. We do not claim any right to your content beyond what is needed to run the service for you.

You give us permission to process your audio and text for the sole purpose of providing Roger to you: storing it, transcribing it, summarising it, and making it searchable. The Privacy Policy sets out who that involves and for how long, and Sub-processors names the companies.

You can export everything, or delete everything, from inside the app at any time. See Delete your data.

7. What Roger writes is not always right

Transcription and summaries are produced by automated systems. They get things wrong, words, names, numbers, and sometimes the sense of what was said. Roger is a memory aid, not a record of fact.

Do not rely on Roger’s output where being wrong would matter: not as a legal record, not as a medical or financial note, not as evidence, and not as minutes anyone is going to act on without checking. Check anything that counts against the audio.

8. Plans and payment

Roger currently has a free tier with a monthly limit on how much audio it will process. The limit is shown in the app, under “You”.

Paid plans are not yet available to buy. When they are, the price, what it includes, and how to cancel will be stated before you are asked to pay, and these terms will be updated to describe them.

9. What we do not promise

Roger is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of faults, or that it will keep working the way it does today.

We take care with your recordings and describe our retention and deletion honestly in the Privacy Policy. Even so, no service is immune to loss. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for loss arising from your reliance on an inaccurate transcript or summary. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Ending it

You can stop using Roger at any time, and delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, in particular section 4 or section 5, or if we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

11. Changes

We may update these terms as Roger changes. The date at the top of this page is when it last changed. If a change materially affects your rights, we will make a reasonable effort to tell you in the app rather than leaving you to notice.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Gujarat, India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
